????????????????????????????????????

In Bulgaria, meat and vegetables are inexpensive, which means that laborers and their families can eat well. The daily diet of the working people is actually more nourishing than in many other parts of Europe. In fact, a Bulgarian laborer’s family eats just as well as a working family in the United States.

In rural areas, most peasants live off their own land. They grow their own vegetables, raise livestock, and wear homemade clothing. These clothes are made from sheepskin, cotton, or wool, and are often handcrafted by the families themselves Native Animals Horses and Buffaloes.

Taxes and Complaints

Compared to countries like Germany and France, taxes in Bulgaria are moderate. They are also similar to the tax levels in Norway and Sweden. However, despite the reasonable taxes, many peasants complain strongly about the way money is spent by the government.

One of the main concerns is the extravagant lifestyle of Prince Ferdinand. People are unhappy about how much money is used for military purposes, especially when many basic needs still go unmet in the countryside.

Political Passion and Macedonian Support

The working class in Bulgaria is very politically active. Most of them are strongly committed to the cause of Macedonian independence. They support this cause with money and time, similar to how Irish immigrants in the United States once supported Ireland’s fight for independence.

Justice and Corruption

The justice system in Bulgaria is described as mild. However, it is also influenced by politics. The police mainly act on political motives, and while the court system may not be perfect, it is claimed that bribery is not common.

Still, political influence is a major issue. The Macedonian Committee holds great power. If someone is involved with this group, it is almost impossible to convict them of a crime, no matter what they have done. Even a man who breaks all the rules of decent behavior can avoid punishment if he loudly supports the Macedonian cause in public places like cafés.
